Danny Kaleikini, known as Hawaii’s “Ambassador of Aloha”, passed away on January 6th, 2023. He was 85 years old.
Born in 1937, Danny Kaleikini was a singer, musical artist and entertainer who captivated audiences for decades with his performances on stage, radio, TV and film. His career spanned over 40 years and included two motion pictures. He won the TBS award at Tokyo’s International Song Festival and was inducted into the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame in 2001.
Kaleikini was known for his signature song “Lahaina Luna” which he wrote in 1978 and performed regularly throughout his career. He released several albums including “A Place Called Hawaii 2” (2007), “Hawaiian Magic – Best of the Islands” (2007), and “100 Hawaiian Favorites” (2007).
In honor of Kaleikini’s life and legacy, Governor Josh Green lowered flags across the state to half-staff on February 17th, 2023. The governor said in a statement: “Uncle Danny Kaleikini will forever be remembered as an ambassador of aloha.”
Kaleikini leaves behind a lasting legacy that will continue to bring joy to generations to come. His music will live on forever as a reminder of his impact on the people of Hawaii.
