If you’re looking for an amazing experience swimming with turtles, the North Shore of Oahu is the place to be. There are numerous spots where you can see these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat. In this blog post, we’ll provide a guide to some of the best spots on the North Shore for snorkeling with turtles. So pack your swimsuit and sunscreen, and get ready for a Hawaiian adventure you’ll never forget!
Turtle Cove:
This secluded cove is located on the North Shore’s sunniest stretch of coastline. It’s known for its clear water and abundance of turtles. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a monk seal or two basking in the sun on the rocks. To get to Turtle Cove, take a left at Kamehameha Highway’s intersection with Haleiwa Road. Drive for about two miles until you see a sign for Turtle Cove Park. Parking is limited, so arrive early.
Shark’s Cove:
This world-famous North Shore dive site is also a great spot for snorkeling with turtles. The cove is home to a wide variety of marine life, including octopus, eels, and of course, sharks. While you’re unlikely to spot a shark while snorkeling (they’re mostly found in deeper waters), the experience of swimming among such fascinating creatures is sure to be a memorable one. Shark’s Cove is located on Pupukea Road, about a mile past Sunset Beach.
Laniakea Beach:
Often referred to as “Turtle Beach,” Laniakea is one of the North Shore’s most popular turtle-viewing spots. The beach is known for its gentle waves and sandy bottom, which make it a perfect place for swimming and snorkeling. To get to Laniakea, take a right onto Kamehameha Highway from Sunset Beach. Drive for about a mile until you see the beach on your left.
These are just a few of the North Shore’s many turtle-viewing spots. So grab your snorkel and fins and head to one of these amazing locations for an experience you’ll never forget. Aloha!
One of the many things to do while on the island of Oahu is to take a full day and explore our beautiful island. One way to do that is to take the famous circle island tour. Hawaii Turtle Tours does just that, a beautiful full day around the island with 12 stops along the way and 60 minutes of snorkeling on the North Shore. They supply the gear and it allows you to snorkel with the big green sea turtles that are abundant on our beautiful North Shore. Then stop by and enjoy the famous shrimp for lunch, followed up by pineapple ice cream Dole at the Dole Pineapple Plantation. This is a day you’ll definitely remember.
