Waikiki Aquarium Mourns the Loss of Its Oldest Resident, the Giant Clam

Posted on March 4, 2023

The Waikiki Aquarium is one of the most popular attractions in Honolulu, Hawaii. Located along the scenic shoreline, it overlooks a living coral reef and invites visitors to explore its stunning native gardens and wander through its exhibits.

The aquarium has been an institution of the University of Hawaii at Manoa since 1904, making it the second oldest operating public aquarium in the United States. It is home to over 3,500 species of marine life from Hawaii and around the world, including tropical fish, mammals, reptiles, invertebrates and more.

Waikiki Aquarium

Recently, the Waikiki Aquarium was saddened by the passing of one of their longest-living residents: a large clam that had been there for several years. To honor its memory, they have received more clams from Micronesia to add to their collection.

Currently, the Waikiki Aquarium is undergoing renovations to improve its facilities and exhibits. They are adding new interactive displays that will allow visitors to learn about ocean conservation and marine life in a fun and engaging way. Additionally, they are expanding their educational programs for children and adults alike so that everyone can learn about our oceans’ incredible creatures.

The Waikiki Aquarium is a great place for families to visit while in Honolulu. With its beautiful gardens and fascinating exhibits, it provides an opportunity for people of all ages to learn about marine life in an exciting environment. Whether you’re looking for a fun day out or want to deepen your knowledge about our oceans’ inhabitants, the Waikiki Aquarium is sure to provide something for everyone!
