Eddie Aikau Quicksilver BIG Wave competition

Posted on February 25, 2016

There are few things in this world that can compare to the raw power and beauty of the ocean. For centuries, humans have been drawn to the sea’s endless potential for adventure and exploration. One man who has experienced this firsthand is Eddie Aikau. A legendary Hawaiian surfer, Eddie was known for his passion for riding giant waves and his dedication to helping others. In this article, we will take a closer look at the life and career of Eddie Aikau.

Eddie was born on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii in 1946. As a young boy, he developed a love for surfing and quickly became one of the most talented surfers on the island. In 1971, Eddie won the prestigious Duke Kahanamoku Invitational Surf Competition. This victory solidified his reputation as a top surfer and earned him a spot on the 1970-1971 United States surfing team.

Surfing North Shore

During his career, Eddie rode some of the biggest waves in the world. In 1978, he surfed at Waimea Bay on the North Shore of Oahu. This wave is considered to be one of the most dangerous in the world and has claimed the lives of several surfers. Eddie rode it with ease, impressing onlookers with his skill and courage.

In 1979, Eddie was working as a lifeguard on the North Shore when a group of fishermen became stranded on a nearby reef. Without hesitating, Eddie paddled out to sea in an attempt to rescue them. Unfortunately, he was never seen again and is presumed to have drowned. His body was never found.

Eddie Aikau was a true pioneer in the world of surfing. He inspired others with his fearless attitude and his commitment to helping others. His legacy continues to live on through the Eddie Aikau Foundation, which provides financial assistance to young people pursuing their dreams. Eddie’s story is one of courage, determination, and love for the sport of surfing. He will always be remembered as one of the greatest surfers in history.
